You wake up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat. No, it’s not a nightmare full of terrifying clowns, it’s your air conditioner. You run down the hall to look at the thermostat and your sweatiest fears are confirmed: your air conditioner crapped out in the middle of the night and it feels like the Amazon jungle in your house. The first thing to do is call Premier Heating and Air for some emergency air conditioning repair. But what can you do to bring down your core temperature while you wait? We’ve got a few ideas…

First of all, you’re going to want to keep your blinds closed. Although opening the windows allows a lot of lovely sunshine into your home, it’s important to remember that light is heat. Leaving blinds and curtains open can increase the temperature inside your home by up to 30 percent! Keep this unwanted heat at bay by keeping your windows covered up as much as possible. If you must open a window for the light, make sure it’s not a south or west-facing window. Those will be the warmest throughout the day.

The next thing you might want to do is fix up your old box or oscillating fan so that it blows an extra cool breeze. You can do this by filling a big bowl with ice (or ice packs) and positioning the fan so that it catches the extra-cold, slightly damp air that’s hanging out right near the ice. It’s way better than sticking your head in the freezer, promise.

Do all your cooking outside. Turning on the stove or the oven creates a LOT of excess heat that could linger in your home for hours. If you can, seize the opportunity to do your cooking outside on the grill. If you wait until just before sunset to start, there should be a pleasant drop in temperature to accompany you while you’re waiting for your steaks to sear.

Premier Heating and Air prides itself on providing rapid air conditioning repair because we know how uncomfortable it is to live without it. If you’re sweating the night away, call us in the morning!
