As you are sitting in your home you begin to notice how warm it is. You check the thermostat and it becomes ever apparent that it is hot in your home, in fact, the temperature reads 80 degrees inside! Not only is this uncomfortable, but it’s not right. You can see that you’ve set the thermostat to kick the AC on at 72 degrees. So why is it not working eight degrees later?

First, it’s important that you consider these two things:

  1. Is it set to cool? – Oftentimes, people will contact their HVAC services because they can’t figure out why their air conditioning isn’t working, and quickly assume that it won’t work at all. HVAC repairmen arrive only to find that the unit isn’t actually set to be on at all.
  2. Is It On Auto? – Before calling for help, make sure the thermostat is set to “ON,” or “AUTO.” If not, it is probably on “FAN mode,” and needs to be switched.

Okay, now that you have checked those things, is everything in order with the temperature set, gauge on cool, and system on auto? If those things are set and the temperature continues to stay put, then you may have other issues that require air conditioning repair services. Here are some other things to look out for that would require HVAC repair services.

  1. Is Your AC blowing Warm Air? – This could be as simple as setting the thermostat from heat to cool. However, if you have already checked on this, it could be that there is a restriction in the airflow. It might be time to replace the air filter. If that hasn’t worked, then the coils could be dirty.
  2. Is Your AC barely blowing? – If you put your hand up to the vent and notice that there is cool air coming out, but it’s a very weak stream, this could mean that the compressor has frozen up and has restricted airflow.
  3. Other Issues – Oftentimes, when an AC unit isn’t working properly, it has to do with the outside unit. We don’t recommend trying to fix this on your own, in fact, make sure you call air conditioning repair services.

If your unit is not keeping your home at your desired temperature when it’s hot outside, be sure to contact your local HVAC services in Denver. They can come out and help with whatever air conditioning repair you could need, and it will help you save money in the long run.
